Pflueger President Casting Reels Review

I've had this reel for about two years now and my problems have been minimal. The 6 centrifugal brake pins may snap out on strong casts which is annoying so I removed 2 of them completely and left the other four in the out position. This seems to be an all around good setting for different lure weights and wind conditions. The free spool on this thing is so awesome that I feel it works best for 3/8 ounce and bigger for casting but you can flip or pitch a soft plastic with no wieght no problem. The retrieves are equally effortless and the drag works fine. The finish has not held up very well but the mechanics have. For 130 bucks or even less on ebay, I would tell anyone to buy one.

Bought the reel and it broke the first day on the water. The drag is very sticky and I broke alot of fish off. Bearings made real loud noise and one of them just froze up on me. The worm gear also had no greese on it and every time I cast I heard the loud noise. Very poorly made reel.

I own a President and wish all my reels were like this.
The reel casts great, the retieve is smooth. The drag is easy and smooth.The weight is fine. I think it is a quality product at a great price. I only experienced one problem. If I cast the reel hard on a 6'6''MH rod with a 3/8 lure, an extra nylon pins will pop loose and reduce the cast distance. Easy fix, just take the cover off and pop it back. Can be annoying.

I have had the displeasure of buying this reel when I should have bought something else. The reel broke on me last wekk and I have only had for a little less than a year. The retrieves were smooth from time to time but every once in a while it felt as if the bearing were sticking or just simply tightned up. So I figured that it must be dirty but then recalled that I had recently cleaned it. It was cleaned again nonetheless and the next time out, the line guide simply stopped moving and the line bunching up on me. I am currently in the process of sending this reel back and telling Pflueger that they should stick to fly fishing....Never again!!!!

If you are looking for the reel that has it all, then look no further than the Pflueger President.
Light, smooth, strong and inexpensive. Don't pay $300-$400 for a reel when you can have the same quality for $130. I have tried them all from Ambassadeur to Zebco and trust me, nothing compares to this reel

Try to find a reel that has quality components like the President for such a low price. A shimano with similar components will cost 3x as much! The reel is super light weight and it casts light lures great (wiffle spool). The 10 ball bearings make the retrieve incredibly smooth. I highly recommend trying this out. You'll for sure pay less than a "brand name" and maybe even like it better.
