Better than the Sol, 2006-06-15

This is the Japanese market version of the Sol. For about the same price or less, you can have this masterpiece of a reel. It can cast lightweight lures a mile and is very smooth. I hardly get any backlashes with the Magforce V system. It has a forged handle and is ok for saltwater, unlike the sol. Did I mention the ultra cool iridescent purple finish? AWESOME!

Let me start by getting my only complaint with the Alphas 103H
out of the way first. 100 yds of 12 lb test (Japanese line
standards) is a little bit on the short side. I'm not fishing for
marlin and bass don't take really long runs but cutting a yard
here and there during the fishing day, does add up or using 17
or 20 lb test for pitchin'/flippin' cuts down as well.
Now, for the positives. The reel is well engineered and built and
feels solid in the hand. It's also extremely light. I use one of my
Alphas with a Team Daiwa Battler "Blitz", 6'5" rod for topwater
and shallow crankbait/jerkbait applications.
The reel casts smoothly for distance and with little effort.
Retrieve is silky and the drag works extremely well. The handle
knobs are comfortable and the drag, cast control knob and
magnetic brake dial are easy to adjust.
