what a deal, 2007-06-17

I was extremely blessed when I found the deal of a life time. I bought my diawa cv-r millionaire with a graphite usa casting rod from a neghtbor for an unbelievable 20$. I was helping a neghtbor change a tire when in the back of his truck I saw the rod lying there un attended so I asked him if he would want to sell it and he said sure how about 20$ bucks and o yeh I have the reel to. When I received my reel it was full of sand and in a Mcdonalds bag once I cleaned and assembled it's been amazing. I can't believe how smooth it is and how well it casts. The drag system works well and it appears that the individual that sold it was a recreatioal diver so the reel was on the ocean floor for some time and still works well.

A extremely well made reel, one of the smoothest cranking reels
I've used, the gears mesh perfectly the reel generates good
power, I didn't like the stock handle and replaced it with the CVZ
power handle from Japan ... it cost about $50...IMO a great
improvement....
It casts beautifully for a levelwind reel. I did degrease the
bearings and used a drop of Reel X on the bearings for
lubercation this improved the freespool.
I also felt the stock drags were a little jerky and faded with long
running fish so I had them replaced with HT-100 drags and feel
they are much smoother and generate higher drag pressure than
the stock drags...all in all a excellent 15# swimbait/plastics
reel..almost a 5 star
I love my CV-Z 253A!, 2005-02-15

I found a really good deal on this reel (around $120) so I bought one. I originally lined it with 12lbs line and used it to throw swimbaits and baits for sand/calico bass. It casts light weights so well! Everything is super smooth including the casting, reeling, and drag.
I've only had a few problems with this reel. I flipped over in a kayak in the surf with this reel so I had to break it apart to get the sand out. I broke this little clip thing that holds the level wind in place when I was trying to get it out. I managed to clean the reel and everything was great, but during a later trip my level wind slipped and my handle locked up. I opened up the sideplate and pinched the clip tighter on the levelwind to fix the issue and kept fishing. This was my fault for breaking the reel but it sucks that you have to deal with this clip if you want to soak the levelwind.
Another minor issue is that the magnetic break system is located inside the side plate so you have to unscrew it to change the settings. The setting dial is also unclear as to which direction makes it tighter vs. looser.
Overall, the positives significantly outweigh the negatives so I highly recommend this reel. The drag system is so strong that I now have this reel lined with 30lbs braid. It's awesome!
