This reel is very smooth. Caught many cudas on it and finally got
a
yellow last weekend. Actually 5 yellows, all over 20#. I was
fishing 30#. This reel
performed very well. The only thing that kind of scared me was
the
anti reverse skipping, im guessing that it was my fault since i
was
putting too much pressure on the handle. It only happend once
and
only skipped a couple of teeth. Very smooth drag out of the box,
very comfortable reel over all, lots of torque. I have fished the
torium 30, 20, and 14. If you are trying to decide between the
torium and the saltist, get the saltist.

My friend bought the hi-speed and I picked up the standard and both reels performed well. I'm sorta wishing I got the hi-speed now but ah well. We got to use our reels down in Baja last week and they did very well both on the troll and for jigging. We picked up dorado and also a few firecracker yellows but had a blast. These reels are so smooth, but the drags could use some oiling beforehand. I found the drags getting stuck when my friends kept messing with them during some fights. They'd either loosen it too much or tighten it too much and it would be hard to get it 'unstuck.' I have the 30 as well and the clamps for that thing are such a pain. I think they may have improved the clamp designs for the new ones though because I didn't really have any issues getting it on. The reel seems durable. I already scratched up the new 40 from rough handling on the panga, so I'm not too happy about that. But hey, at least it's getting used right?!

I had a Saltist 50 that I wanted to use for a jig stick, but it couldn't cast worth a darn.I taded it it for a Saltist 30 and WOW what a differance! I put that reel on my jig stick and now I'm as happy as a clam.
good solid construction, sucks at casting, 2006-08-21

I like this reel, its solid, hardy and the machining and molding are primo. Action is very smooth and maintenance is a breeze.
It casts like shit though. I have a few baitcaster and another conventional. I can cast them all except for this boy.
For trolling, the clicker is too soft. I find myself putting it in gear and loosening the drag. Or else it will keep feedin line.
When the fish are on, this reel will deliver. In that regards it gets 5 stars.

Got the Saltist 50 for some bottom fishing off the East Coast. But I've used it for light trolling also. Great reel at a great price. As for the reel clamp, it looks alot better than the one that comes with the Saltiga

What a fantastic reel! I've acquired a 30T and the reel is a true gem. Solid construction, great freespool, buttery smooth drags, awesome cranking power, and priced right. The Saltiga's although made to tighter standards were a bit out of my price range. These reels flat out rock. Only complaint, the clamp.
