This reel, although very simple and very skimpy, earned four stars because of its all around mulitude of uses. Load this up with floating fly line and have a good time fishing for Rainbow trout in the Sierras or load it up with 12 pound test monofiliment and bank drift for steelhead or salmon. Put on a s/w compatible sinking tip line and try you luck at fly fishing for rockfish or surfperch. Try a weigh foward floating line for some large mouth bass. This reel has every imaginable usage. The drag is an extremely simple click drag which is easily set.
the 1494 1/2 up with a 7 weight graphite rod and 6 weight line and have a versitle combo.
****/***** stars
Also, these reels are fairly inexpensive- around the $30 which only add to their versitilty
