I'm on my second, love the reel, for the 1st year, then love turns to hate when the the gears go bad. I got them both on sale which is the reason I chose them over the stradic. I have now gone back to the Shimano Stradic line of reels. They hold up better, a little smoother and cost roughly the same unless you find the Capricorn on sale. I baby my reels, wash after each use, stored on a rack inside my home and lube them once every 3 months, so its not me causing the problem. Stay away saltwater anglers.

Okay, I bought this reel after many years of detesting Daiwa reels. I bought it new at a deep discount and figured that it can't be all bad for the money I paid. I was right. In fact, after using this reel for a couple years, it is fantastic. I have it strapped to a Daiwa 7ft, one piece, medium/light graphite rod (a cheapie) and spooled it with 8lb test Fireline. I have caught Spanish Mackerals up to 4 lbs, Dolphin (mahi-mahi) up to 10 lbs and countless largemouth bass, Mayan Cichlids, Bluegills and other panfish. This reel has changed my opinion on Daiwa reels. It has become my light tackle, go-to rod/reel combo. I will add that if you choose to use the 'super-lines' such as Powerpro, Fireline, Spiderwire or any others, be sure to match it with comparable mono backing to eliminate the packed line spinning around the arbor of your reel. Great reel though... Knowing what i do now, I would have paid retail price for it.

My name is Ian Henson, i fish at private lakes and pits in buckinghamshire, we have possibley
some of the best fishing there is with regards
to carp, barbel, tench, catfish, bream, roach
etc, thats why i use this reel, ok it isnt the
big powerfull carp reel that most carp fisherman have but i would say its is simply superb for
big fish, and all other tasks you find your self in. Balance and strengh all included, buy one, buy two, i have and i would buy another. The reel
does a great job with powerfull fish, and casts
so smoothley even with light tackle, a must for
float fishing and river, especialy barbel.

I have a 1500 with a spare 2000 spool (reels are identical except the arbor thickness of the spool) and a 2500. Both are the older models without the CRBB bearings. I use them for light saltwater applications including in the surf and they have performed flawlessly. Southern California has very fine sand (almost like dust) which can reek havoc on reels but my Capricorns have retained their silky smooth retrieves. Of course, some extra care and maintenance is required when using these in saltwater. The drags are good and I really like Daiwa's ABS spools for casting.

My only complaint is that the reel CAN get scuffed up, especially on the plastic parts (rotor, sideplates, etc.). Strictly a cosmetic issue as this has no effect on the reel's performance.

I love this reel. The price you pay is worth the quality. Great Drags, Super Smooth, Casts Great. I would becareful with the bail and manually close it, meaning don't just crank...

2500: Great of compact reel. Bass, Trout, Perch

3500: Hallie/Stipers. Great for casting lures or just soaking bait on the pier. 10-12lb line

4500: I have 30lb power pro on here and use it for large sharays and sturgeon.
