The Facts: The Shimano Thunnus spinning reel is similar to the Baitrunner where it features a special lever controlled secondary drag system that acts as a tension controlled free spool. This allows the fish to take out line on the strike and then one a quick turn on the handle engages the main gears for a solid hookset. The Thunnus has an aluminum frame (graphite on the Baitrunner), more bearings, and better gearing than the Baitrunner.

These series of spinning reels are rock solid. I've got the largest model (6500) and is used for catching the bememoths that lurk in the surf. The only donwside to them is they are heavy A** reels, but thats the price you pay for having such a sturdy reel. Plus you get shimano's superb customer service. I had the baitrunner feature break down on me. When I sent it over to shimano they fixed it free of charge within a week.
