The Facts: Quantum Cabo reels feature an one-piece aluminum frame with a high-capacity, forged aluminum spool. These reels also have brass alloy machined gears, an adjustable centrifugal cast control, continuous anti-reverse, and a magnum ceramic drag. They are protected with six layers of Saltgard for corrosion resistance.

Had the Cabo spinning reel since winter but only started fishing it heavy in the late summer. The anti-revrse is a joke and the spool will not come off, I think the shaft is bent.

I recently fished the new "saltwater" reels from quantum. I was not impressed. If this was their attempt at a sailfish spinning reel, They better try again. Smoked two drags, Lost anti-reverse on one, plus the bottom plate leaves nice blue paint on gunnels. These were brand new reels. We caught 5 sails in four days (not even big ones), a few dolphin and bonita and 3 of 5 reels were done. TRY AGAIN Quantum.

Good: Low profile lightweight with large line capacity, strong drag, smooth bearings and corrosion proof. ordering parts is easy...
Bad: service availability, difficult to service the reel yourself, centrifugal brakes are too strong, removeable plate for adjusting brakes is tedious. After a year of pounding, the drags wore down and started shuddering, (probably my fault for over greasing)
tidbits: sweet spot for this reel is 3/4oz - 1 oz lures. nothing smaller, nothing bigger... take off all the brakes for thumb controlled casting. if this reel was not levelwind, you could probably cast a mile.
This is a strong reel that is also low profile and lightweight. I don't think there is another reel out there that is small and powerful and can hold almost 300 yards of line. Sure there are reels that are strong but they are big, heavy and round. I believe this reel is not for finesse, accurate casting with light lines and light lures but its possible.

I was intriqued by the Cabo's Quantum's hype of "ceramic drags"
and "6 layer finish" and got one last year.....the first thing I
noticed was the large frame size, I thought maybe "huge gears"
.....nope regular sized gears/drag...then it dawned on me that
the frame was made to also accomidate the level wind in the
level wind version therefore the large frame size....it freespooled
well out of the box and felt good in my hands the crank and
handle were very comfortable, very well finished.....I spooled it
with 50# spectra and a 30# mono topshot.....I used it with live
bait for albacore and yellowtail in Southern California and
dorado and jack cravelle on the East Cape....largest albie was in
the low 40's and yt to 30#.
I was very impressed by the smooth gears and smooth powerful
drag...upon tear down the drags had worn some but were not
burnt or glazed and are good to go another season....
There was no corrosion and I was surprized at how well it
performed overall for a $150 reel. This is a large step up IMO
from the previous Quantum reels I have used. Alot of reel for
the buck and you will probably standout in the crowd at the
rail....
