The Facts: The Shimano Chronarch is available in three models. The CH-B is for most fishing applications that require fast line pickup but not a massive amount of line capacity. With PV power grips and a 5.0:1 gear ratio, BPV is optimal for big crankbaits or swimbaits. BSV is designed for saltwater. With a deep spool for line capacity, high speed retrieve and oversized grips. The Escape Hatch sideplate access system allows for quick VBS adjustments.

New Chronarch, 2005-03-10

I was at first skeptical about the new style chronarchs due to the switch to access the spool/brakes located on the non - handle side of the reel (for me the left side)simply because it is plastic and possibly breakable. I fish primarily on the Potomac River where it is Un-Godly rough all the time. However I bought one of these and a new Rogue Flipping stick and used it all weekend on a very windy and rough Lake Anna and found this reel to be quite possibly one of the best I have ever used. It helped me skip jigs way under docks and got me the bites to take 7th place last weekend. I am some one who does not praise much fishing tackle or boats or motors or anything marine/fishing because for what you pay they should be a lot better, but the chronarch actually proved it was worth the extra money.

Light weight, casts great, and relatively smooth. Perfect all purpose reel. The light weight is immediately noticeable and it makes a big difference when you're fishing all day. You can't go wrong with it. The only potential problem is that it doesn't hold a lot of heavy line. I just see it as a good excuse to get another reel for that purpose.
